Montecristo White Label Rothchilde

photo courtesy of JR Cigars and the Montecristo Cigar Company.

"Ringed in White Bands and packed in beautiful boxes, the Montecristo White is an elegant cigar. Hand wrapped in a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade seed leaf and blended with select Dominican and Nicaraguan long leaf fillers, its flavor is worth savoring" says JR Cigars, the largest cigar retailer in the nation. I, this morning, decided to pick up a 5pack (I'm a Cuban style cigar lover, Bolivar Cofradia Maduro 554 and 654 to be my favorite along with JR Ultimate Rothschild). This cigar is quite a difference in both smoke, flavor and spice.

I first opened the cellophane surrounding this gem and noticed quite a sweet and mild fragrance. I noted vanilla and cinnamon (probably because my car smells like that) and a warm welcoming aroma. The cigar is not too oily like a maduro, but the sugars in the cigar certainly present themselves on the first few puffs.

I lit up the cigar, using my triple torch lighter (brand not stated, for reasons that it matters NOT in this review) and first smelled the smoke coming off the cigar. Imagine a vanilla sugar candle, and how warm the essence is. That's what I got out of this cigar. A warm inviting aroma, not the least harsh or piercing. The first few puffs were smooth and silky. The tobacco has essence of coffee, nutmeg, and almond. As the cigar burned more and mellowed, those flavors blended and the wrapper made an appearance in slight flavor. It was warm and soothing.

The lasting fragrance left in my car and clothes could best be described as an aromatic pipe that my grandpa used to smoke. Very warm inviting and friendly, almost reminiscent of times past. I would say, it was a meditative smell. A bit of cherry as well presented itself for a few minutes. I was quite pleased.

This cigar, on the Mild to Med bodied cigars would rate 8 out of 10 for:

Flavor
Craftsmanship
Burn
Draw
Expected flavors and unexpected
Price (its a bit pricey, but worth every penny. I guarantee it!)
